Priory Swim Team

Priory’s swim team made our school proud yesterday at the preliminary round for the League Championship meet. Our team was one of the smallest there, but definitely the loudest, most spirited, and fastest.

The girls made their CCS cut in the 200 Free Relay and also clinched a 1st place seed for tomorrow’s finals. Consi Hiller also clinched 1st place in the 100 back while breaking a pool record. Blake Weber did the same thing in the same event for the boys, securing 1st and breaking a pool record.

Marisa Martinson, Allison Frisbie, Sammy Hiller, and Consi Hiller will be returning to represent the girls in 6 events, while Blake Weber, Bergie Antell, Imre Simon, and Tristan Burrin will swim in a combined 5 events. A special congrats also to Bergie, Imre, Aran Nayebi, and Gabe Wang who all had personal bests in multiple events.

Priory Lacrosse Team:
Priory Lacrosse vs. Woodside Wow! Can you say Superman? Alex Brugger had 5 goals against Woodside Wednesday! Drew Yoxsimer and Conner Mather each added a goal to help Priory to a great game against the Wildcats. In fact, Woodside had to forfeit the game and load their JV squad with seasoned Varsity players in order to compete. Punishing physical play by the Priory boys had Woodside on their heels (and looking over their shoulders) most of the game. Great ball management by the offense and a strong defensive effort by all. Well done Priory!

The 41st Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival w/ Priory Faculty and Travis Johnson (9th grader)

April 30th, 2008

The 41st Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival was recently held in San Francisco. The festival brings together over 200,000 people to celebrate Japanese culture in the spirit of the cherry blossom season. Traditional foods and arts were the highlight of the festival which spanned two weekends and culminated in a Grand Parade on Sunday, April 20th. Woodside Priory’s Heather Nodelman (teacher) and Travis Johnson (9th grader) marched in the festival’s Grand Parade with Ebisu Sushi Restaurant and Fujikage Shizukaoru Nihonbuyo Club (dance group). Each year the group marches to the beat of a festival dance from Fukushima, Japan. In Japan, this dance is performed during an August festival with people carrying huge waraji (straw sandals) to pray for health and good harvest. Daisuke Masui (teacher) also marched in the parade with the San Francisco Taiko Dojo.

Dear parents –

Nine students from Ms. Muir’s Marine Biology and Oceans class had the adventure of a lifetime as they sampled San Francisco Bay and offshore last weekend!

The students participated in an oceanographic research cruise aboard the 82 foot schooner Seaward led by Call of the Sea, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people to the sea, through the unique hands-on experience of sailing a traditional vessel.

The students worked with the captain, crew, and educators of the Seaward, Ms. Christine Muir, Dr. Alex Parker, from The Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies, San Francisco State University, a research oceanographer and a biology professor at Dominican University, and Mr. Al Marchi, a lab technician at SFSU. 2008 Priory Rebuilding Together Volunteer Event

Priory students, staff and faculty chipped in to help clean, paint, and beautify Lloyd and Betty Oberg’s home. Living on a fixed income and with his wife suffering from the debilitating effects of Diabetes, Lloyd couldn’t keep up with the demands of maintaining their home. Lloyd and Betty Oberg’s home is the 16th that the Priory has helped refurbish. See the homeowner profile below. To see pictures of the event, click here.

Priory Has a Lacrosse Team?

April 7th, 2008

by Colton Purvin

Yes, it’s true. Priory has a Lacrosse team, the first since the early 1970’s. Although creating a team may seem like an effortless task, it took a great deal of time and planning.

On an ordinary weekend in October, my friend Brian (Bevilacqua) and I began talking about whether we were going to play for any Lacrosse club teams. Priory had no Lacrosse team, and we thought it would be pretty cool if they had one. We casually ran this idea by our parents and were surprised by their great interest. Read the rest of this entry »
