Retreats

Student in Chapel

The retreat program is an integral part of the Priory's Benedictine tradition. Retreats are a time set aside once a year for students to be in touch with God, nature, themselves, and each other. Each high school class visits an off-campus retreat center for two days and one night. The Middle School students take a day from school to devote specifically to spiritual growth.

Through games, skits, art activities and sitting in a circle around a campfire or fireplace, students grow closer to each other, their teachers and advisors, and their inner selves. Every year, at the end of the retreat, they pass around a class candle and offer thoughts and reflections. By senior year, this candle has meaning for the class and it stays in the chapel after they leave — a symbol of the unique, irreplaceable quality of each individual in the class.
