Spiritual Life

Spiritual Life

Father Martin and Kids

"Almost 1,500 years ago, Saint Benedict wrote a small book of rules for monasteries. It is about building communities whose members support each other in their search for God. It is still the goal we seek every day in this school community."
– Martin Mager, OSB

The Benedictine values of community, individuality, integrity, spirituality and hospitality underlie a Priory education and the entire atmosphere of the campus. Students know them well, and discuss them often. Students are encouraged in many ways to identify their personal values and to live by them.

Saint Benedict's rule teaches that "all are welcome with honor and respect." The Priory community believes in the importance of religious diversity among the students and the faculty, and in developing a student's spirituality within their family's faith.

Saint Benedict encouraged his followers to "live fully and be involved in the world." This message guides the Priory's curriculum and activities. Students become involved with communities around them that they might not see — the handicapped, the homeless, the ill or addicted. They understand international differences through such direct links as the Priory's sister schools in Africa. Students learn what makes a "good community," and how to take part personally.
