Priory academics help students to move quickly from basic skills and fact-learning to critical thinking and problem solving. Teachers help students to become familiar with different ways of learning, and to know what works best for them. In class, students continually refine the skills of academic work — how to study, organize a notebook, discuss an issue, or divide up work in a group project, for example. Students learn in age-appropriate ways beginning in sixth grade. By senior year nearly all are effective at managing their academic lives.
Students do their learning in classes, activities, sports, arts, field trips, from in-class speakers, at school assemblies, and at retreats. Priory students and faculty keep their eyes on the global future.
Computer technology is used in teaching and learning by all faculty members and throughout the curriculum. Students use technology in making reports, doing research, and many other ways. Email and Web technology are used extensively to communicate on and off the campus. Online grade reporting gives students and parents a continuous and accurate assessment of student progress, class by class.
